Rumour: Maruti Suzuki YRA to be called Fronx

Maruti Suzuki has many models lined up for launch in India. Among them is a new B+ segment hatchback codenamed YRA. The car had been spotted testing on various occasions. The company went on to unveil it as the iK-2 concept at the Geneva Motor Show earlier this year.

In the latest set of spy shots, the YRA is seen in what is believed to be Maruti's factory. According to a report by Gaadiwaadi, the car is likely to be called the Fronx. Going by the specifications of the iK-2 concept, the Fronx is likely to be the widest hatchback in India. Its dimensions are expected to translate into large interior space and the ground clearance is likely to be high in order to suit the road conditions in India.

The Fronx is likely to come with three engine options -

  • 1.0-litre, K10C BooseterJet petrol engine with automatic and manual transmissions and stop-start technology
  • 1.2-litre, K12C petrol, 90 bhp petrol engine (probably for export markets only)
  • 1.3-litre, 89 bhp diesel engine from the Ertiga / Ciaz

The Fronx will slot above the Swift in Maruti's hatchback line-up. It will compete against the Hyundai Elite i20 and the upcoming Hyundai Jazz.
