Rumour: Maruti Gypsy bookings to stop from December 2018

According to a media report, Maruti Suzuki will stop taking bookings for the Gypsy from next month, while production of the model is expected to end in March 2019.

The Maruti Gypsy has been very popular with off-road enthusiasts and rally drivers alike. The model is also used by various government agencies and the military in India. Despite its popularity, it seems the Gypsy will be discontinued as Maruti has no plans to update it to comply with the upcoming safety and emissions regulations.

The Maruti Gypsy was launched in the Indian market back in December 1985. In 1993, the MG410W was introduced with 90 mm wider front and rear tracks. The next major update came in 1996, when the 1.3-litre, all-aluminium engine from the Esteem was offered on the Gypsy King.
