Maruti Ciaz to get SHVS (hybrid) variant, more features

The Maruti Suzuki Ciaz has been a strong seller in the C2 segment. It sits in second place, behind the Honda City in the segment. According to media reports Maruti is gearing up to give the Ciaz some updates.

Here's a look at the changes we can expect.

A "hybrid" version of the Ciaz is expected to be launched later this month. This variant is likely to be called the Ciaz SHVS (Smart Hybrid Vehicle by Maruti Suzuki) and is expected to come with an idling start/stop system, a larger battery and an Integrated Starter Generator (ISG). While the vehicle is coasting or braking, the ISG charges the batteries. The power is stored in the battery and the system combines it with the power from the engine to help the vehicle during acceleration.

The start/stop system switches off the engine when the car is not in motion and switches it on when the clutch is depressed. To restart the engine, the driver’s seatbelt should be in place, driver door and bonnet of the car has to be closed. The system can be shut off manually by operating a button below the center console.

Apart from the SHVS variant, the Ciaz is also getting a new V(O) variant with safety pack. This safety pack includes ABS and EBD, driver and passenger airbags, seatbelt with pre-tensioners and force limiters and a seatbelt reminder with buzzer. These features will be a part of standard equipment on all variants of the car from the V(O) to the Z+.

All variants of the Ciaz will get a driver airbag as a part of standard equipment.
