Rumour: Mahindra XUV500 to get Hybrid and automatic variants

Mahindra & Mahindra is rumoured to be gearing up to give its flagship SUV, the XUV500 a couple of new variants. These include a hybrid version and one with an automatic transmission.

Mahindra had displayed the XUV500 Hybrid at the 2014 Auto Expo, held earlier this year. The company claims that it can deliver 18% better fuel efficiency and has lower emissions. It is likely to be the first manual diesel hybrid car on sale in the world.

An automatic transmission-equipped version of the XUV500 is also in the works. The company intends to launch it, there is no timeframe set for it. A facelift to the XUV500 is also on the card. But again, there is no indication about the date of its launch.
