Rumour: Mahindra & Ford mulling global technology partnership

Earlier reports had indicated that Mahindra is planning to partner with Ford in order to use the latter's idle production capacity in Chennai. While the automakers haven't yet made any official announcement, new reports suggest that the said partnership might not just be limited to capacity sharing. Instead, the two companies are reportedly in talks to forge a global partnership for joint technology and product development.

According to media reports, Mahindra and Ford are planning to enter an intellectual partnership, under which, the two companies will focus on jointly developing products, technologies and components. If the talks indeed materialize, this partnership could result in a new range of global utility vehicles and electric cars. It is also being reported that the Mahindra North American Technical Centre (MNATC) in Detroit, USA is playing a vital role in the partnership talks, which are currently in the preliminary stages.

Interestingly, Mahindra has been looking to expand its global operations in the future, with America being a very important market in its plans. We had recently reported that the company might soon enter the American markets with a new off-roader and products under the SsangYong brand. The probable tech partnership with Ford is likely a part of these global efforts of the Indian automaker.
