Rumour: Hyundai Creta EV to take on Maruti electric SUV

The Creta EV is rumoured to be priced between Rs. 15-30 lakh and will lock horns with products from Tata, Mahindra and Maruti Suzuki

Recently, Hyundai launched the Ioniq 5 in India. It’s their second pure electric model after the Kona Electric. The carmaker is reportedly working on a more mainstream EV based on the popular Creta.

Reports suggest that the all-electric Creta (codenamed: SU2i EV) could enter production by the end of 2024. It is likely to debut at the Auto Expo 2025.

The Creta EV is rumoured to be priced between Rs. 15-30 lakh and will lock horns with similar products from Tata and Mahindra. Maruti Suzuki is also working on an electric SUV (codenamed: YY8), which will be a direct rival of the electric Creta.

The Creta EV will be based on a modified version of the existing ICE platform. It will serve as a stepping stone towards the complete localisation of the E-GMP platform, which will underpin all future EVs from Hyundai. The company plans to introduce six EVs in India by 2028.
