Rumour: Honda WR-V to get 1.5L petrol engine, CVT gearbox

Honda is reportedly planning to add a new petrol engine option in the recently launched WR-V cross hatch. As per reports, the company is working on a 1.5-litre petrol engine for the WR-V, while an automatic variant with a CVT gearbox is also said to be in the pipeline.

This new engine will likely be the same 1.5-litre, 4-cylinder i-VTEC unit that is found in the City sedan. This power plant is rated at 118 BHP @ 6,600 rpm and 145 Nm @ 4,600 rpm. In the City, it is available with two transmission options - a 5-speed MT and a CVT. It remains to be seen whether the WR-V will get both these gearbox options or just the CVT unit.

The WR-V was launched in India earlier this month. It is currently available with two engine options: a 1.2-litre petrol with a 5-speed manual and a 1.5-litre diesel with a 6-speed manual. The absence of an automatic option appears to be bothering Honda, which is why they are now said to be working on this limitation of the WR-V.
