According to media reports, Honda is planning to launch the new-gen CR-V in India. While the company is yet to make an official announcement on the same, it is being reported that the car will be launched sometime next year.
The India-spec model of the fifth-generation CR-V is likely to be similar to what is currently on sale in Thailand. Therefore, the India-bound crossover is expected to come with a 7-seater layout, instead of the 5-seater arrangement found on the American models. In terms of styling, the new CR-V gets a more aggressive design compared to its predecessor. The car's overall styling cues are in line with Honda's updated design philosophy.
The various features on offer with the new-gen CR-V include a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, dual-zone climate control, keyless start, 8-way power adjustable driver seat, 4-way power adjustable front passenger seat and an electric parking brake.
The biggest addition to the CR-V in India will be a diesel engine. This will be the first time that Honda will offer an oil burner option in the crossover in India. It will be a 1.6-litre, four-cylinder turbocharged unit, which is expected to be produced locally in an attempt to ensure a competitive price tag for the car. In international markets, this engine develops 156 BHP and 350 Nm of torque. Petrol models will continue with the current engine, which is a 2.4-litre, four-cylinder mill that is currently rated at 187 BHP and 226 Nm. Both engine options are expected to be available with 2WD as well as AWD configurations.
