According to recent media reports, Ford is developing a new platform (codenamed: B563) which will underpin a hatchback in the future. It will be a modified version of current B562 platform which underpins the Figo. The upcoming model based on the new platform is said to rival the likes of the Hyundai i20 and Maruti Suzuki Baleno in the Indian market.
The new hatchback will be placed a segment above the Figo. A sedan version of the hatchback is also expected to be positioned above the Aspire. The sedan version can be seen as a replacement for the Fiesta sedan which was discontinued in 2015. It will allow Ford to compete with cars like the Honda City and Hyundai Verna.
Reports suggest that the Figo and Aspire will get extensive updates in the years to come and will be re-positioned to accommodate the upcoming hatchback and sedan. Both models are expected to arrive after 2020, powered by a new generation of engines designed to meet more stringent emission regulations. These would probably be revised versions of the Dragon series of engines that will debut on the new Ford EcoSport.
