According to a media report, TVS is likely to launch the 2018 Apache RTR 160 on March 14, 2018. A test mule of the bike was last spotted in July 2017 and the spy video indicates that the new bike will feature updated styling similar to the Apache RTR 200 4V. The bike is also expected to receive an updated engine as well.
This will be the RTR 160s first major overhaul since its launch and will be based on new chassis. As per the spy video, it is likely to borrow the fuel tank design, headlight, tail light and instrument cluster from its higher capacity sibling. However, unlike the RTR 200 4V, the RTR 160 will get a single-piece seat. Besides, the 'shotgun' exhaust will be carried over to the RTR 160 as well. It will ride on conventional telescopic front forks with a monoshock in the rear and it will come equipped with a front disc brake with a rear-mounted disc brake that could be offered as an option.
The 2018 RTR 160 is expected to receive an updated power plant. Media reports suggest that the single-cylinder, air-cooled engine will come equipped with an oil cooler as well. Power and torque output are also likely to go up. Currently, the 159.7 cc engine produces 15 BHP @ 8,500 rpm and 13.03 Nm of torque @ 6,500 rpm and comes paired with a 5-speed transmission.
The new Apache RTR 160 will compete with the Honda X-Blade in the Indian market.
