According to media reports, when Audi launches the facelifted A3 in India, it will come with a 1.4-litre TFSI engine, instead of the 1.8-litre unit that is currently on offer. The downsized unit is essentially the same engine that powers the recently launched Audi A4.
In the A4, the 1.4 TFSI unit develops 148 BHP and a peak torque of 250 Nm. This engine is mated to a 7-speed DSG gearbox that sends power to the front wheels. The India-spec A3 facelift is likely to have front-wheel drive as standard.
The 2017 Audi A3 facelift was revealed earlier this year. It gets various cosmetic changes, including new headlights with jagged bottom edges, broader single frame front grille, and a redesigned rear diffuser.
Audi is expected to launch the 2017 A3 in India around February next year. It will compete with the likes of the Mercedes-Benz CLA.
