Retrofitted cruise control on my Grand i10 NIOS: Here's how it helped

For anyone owning a Grand i10 Nios AMT and doing regular highway runs, this is one modification I wholeheartedly recommend.

BHPian Neongoblin recently shared this with other enthusiasts:

I recently retrofitted cruise control to my Hyundai Grand i10 Nios Sportz AMT (2022), and I must say—this simple modification has completely transformed my driving experience, especially on highways and long-distance commutes. I’m sharing my experience here in the hope that it may be helpful to other AMT owners considering this practical upgrade.

Why Cruise Control on an AMT Makes So Much Sense

Most of us know that cruise control has traditionally been reserved for higher variants or more premium models, but in today’s mod-friendly aftermarket ecosystem, enabling such features is not only feasible but also remarkably effective—particularly on automatic transmissions like the AMT.

Having driven both manual and automatic transmissions, the difference in cruise control behavior is night and day. In a manual car, pressing the clutch to change gears immediately cancels cruise control—an inherent limitation. But with the AMT, things are much smoother:

Once you hit 30 km/h or above, just press the ‘SET’ button and relax.

The system maintains the selected speed while automatically shifting gears as needed. No interruptions, no clutch—just seamless cruising.

You can increment or decrement the cruising speed with a single tap on the respective buttons, allowing for fine control without disengaging the system.

Need to overtake? Just press the accelerator to surge ahead, and the system will resume the preset speed once you let go.

Key Benefits I've Observed So Far:

  • Reduced Fatigue on Long Drives: No more constant pedal inputs on long stretches.
  • Better Fuel Efficiency: Maintaining a consistent speed without unnecessary throttle modulation has slightly improved my mileage.
  • Enhanced Driving Comfort: Especially helpful in those long, straight highway sections.
  • OEM-like Integration: The setup feels stock—clean, functional, and intuitive.

Final Thoughts

For anyone owning a Grand i10 Nios AMT and doing regular highway runs, this is one modification I wholeheartedly recommend. It adds genuine functionality and elevates the overall driving experience without affecting reliability or warranty (assuming proper installation).
