Nissan trademarks a new simpler logo

Nissan is yet to make any official announcement regarding the new logo.

Nissan is said to have trademarked a new logo with a much simpler design. However, it is still unclear what the new logo will be used for.

According to reports, Nissan filed a patent application for its new logo design both in the European Union and Australia earlier this month. The new logo feature a simple design, with 2 vertical and 3 horizontal lines next to each other.

As per reports, the new logo could be a subtle tribute to the brand's racing heritage, as the number 23 is commonly used by Nissan's motorsport teams. It could also suggest a more literal translation - "NI" means 2 in Japanese, while the number 3 is represented by the horizontal lines (which sometimes also translates to "SAN").

The carmaker recently updated its current logo, hence, there is little chance the new design could be a full replacement for the Nissan badge. Reports though suggest it could be a secondary mark for the more sportier models from the carmaker, a new performance division or a logo for the models based in the regions the design has been trademarked in. However, these are just assumptions at this point.

Nissan is yet to make any official announcement regarding the new logo.
