The National Green Tribunal (NGT) has issued an order banning two-wheelers from entering Rohtang Pass.
Under the order, the NGT has also prohibited all commercial activities at Rohtang Pass. The Tribnal has ordered the Deputy Commissioner Kullu and SP Kullu to remove all dhabas and other eateries to be removed from Kullu. Riding snow scooters and ATVs, horse riding, paragliding and other activities have been banned as well. These activities have been banned at Solang and Marhi too.
However, shops at Marhi have been allowed to carry on their business, but will have to adhere to the terms set by the Tribunal.
The NGT has issued a show cause notice to the Government of Himachal Pradesh asking why it should not ban all tourist activities at the Rohtang Pass. The notice was issued as the NGT feels that the government has not been able to control the traffic chaos in the eco-sensitive zone.
In May 2015, the NGT banned diesel tourist vehicles from entering Rohtang Pass.
