Next-gen VW Polo teased ahead of global premiere

Volkswagen has released a teaser video of the next-gen Polo hatchback, which is expected to be globally unveiled later this year. This update will mark the introduction of the sixth-generation model under the Polo name.

A few undisguised images of the new-gen Polo had surfaced a while ago, revealing major design changes made to the car. However, the model in the teaser video has been disguised under camouflage. The 2018 Polo is expected to get revised design cues that will be in-line with Volkswagen's new design philosophy. These include slimmer elements on the front fascia, including headlight assemblies and grille, while a prominent character line is expected to run around the side profile of the car. The rear will get a wider bumper, new taillights and a larger tailgate.

Based on Volkswagen's new MQB A0 platform, the new Polo will be significantly larger than the current model. However, owing to some weight saving construction mechanism of the new platform, it will likely be around 70 kg lighter than the current-generation model. In the international markets, the new Polo is expected to be equipped with 1.0-litre and 1.5-litre turbo petrol engines and a 1.6-litre diesel power plant. Transmission options likely to be offered include a 5-speed manual, a 6-speed manual and a 7-speed DSG automatic.
