Ford of Brazil is putting the final touches to the B-562, a replacement to the Ford Figo hatchback. The next-generation 2014 Ford Figo will go on sale in Brazil next year, after which it is likely to be launched in India as well. The 2014 Figo, as detailed in our previous report, will use a modified platform of the current model. Also, the new Figo platform will play host to a compact sedan, a car that will replace the Classic sedan in India.
TheTruthAboutCars is carrying spyshots of what seems to be the compact sedan version of the 2014 Figo. The three giveaways supporting this assertion are the headlamps, the hexagonal grille and the wing mirrors of the purported Figo-based compact sedan. These parts are similar to those seen on the test mules of the Figo hatchback. Since the test mule is completely camouflaged, there is no other way to confirm. Notably, the test mule of the sedan was spotted in suburban Detroit, regular testing ground for new cars.
The spyshots of the test mule also depict a high rear end, a-la-new Fiesta sedan, and a size that's roughly comparable to that of the Chevrolet Sail sedan. Apart from the Sail sedan, the Figo-based compact sedan's rivals in the Indian car market would include the Maruti Suzuki Dzire, the Honda Amaze and the Tata Manza. The new Figo hatchback is likely to replace the Ka globally, as Ford's new entry level hatchback.
On a similar note, expect the Figo-based sedan to be offered in emerging markets as the car maker's entry-level sedan. Like its hatchback sibling, the Figo compact sedan could be powered by the 1 liter EcoBoost turbo petrol and the 1.5 liter TDCI turbo diesel engines. Both engines will get manual 5 speed gearboxes as standard while the petrol variant could also be offered with an automatic gearbox. With the first test mules spotted, the Figo-based compact sedan might well be on its way to serial production.
