Next-Gen Maruti Swift spotted testing in Thailand

A test mule of the next-generation Maruti Swift has been spotted in Thailand. The new model is based on the HEARTECT platform which underpins the Baleno and Dzire. The new platform is reportedly lighter and stiffer than the outgoing architecture.

The hatchback gets a new front grille, headlights, bumpers and tail-lights. The A and B-pillars have been blacked out while the C-pillar gets partial black trim and houses the rear door handle. The blacked-out pillars create the illusion of a floating roof. Also note that the test mule is equipped with rear disc brakes.

The interior has been redesigned and is similar to what we've seen on the new Dzire. It gets a flat-bottom steering wheel, a twin-pod instrument cluster, centre console with touchscreen infotainment and circular AC controls and vents.

The new Swift was first unveiled in Japan and was later displayed in Europe at the 2017 Geneva Motor Show. It is expected to be launched in India in 2018. Maruti is yet to announce the engines that will be offered but we can expect a 1.2-litre petrol, 1.3-litre diesel and perhaps an AMT version as well.
