Hyundai commenced bookings of the new Verna on August 4, ahead of its official launch on August 22, 2017. According to the company, the new Verna is based on the K2 platform and measures 4,440 mm in length, 1,729 mm in width and 1,475 mm in height. Figures suggest that the overall length of the vehicle has gone up by 65 mm and wheelbase has increased by 30 mm to 2600 mm. Rear headroom has gone up by 3 mm while boot capacity has increased by 20 litres to 480 litres.

Under the skin, the new Verna will get a 1.6-litre petrol engine producing 121 BHP/ 151 Nm and a 1.6-litre diesel making 126 BHP/ 260 Nm. While the power output is the same as the outgoing model, the engines are claimed to be more fuel efficient. Both petrol and diesel models will be available in 6 trims with the option of a 6-speed manual or 6-speed automatic transmission.

New features have been introduced to the Verna as part of this update. Apart from the distinct design front grille, the new Verna gets projector headlamps with LED DRLs, cornering lamps, LED tail lamps, projector fog lamps, shark fin antenna and new 16-inch alloy wheels wrapped in 195/55 R16 tyres (185/65 R15 on lower variants).

It also comes with front ventilated seats, electric sunroof, hands-free trunk release, voice recognition, cruise control and a 7.0-inch touchscreen infotainment display. As part of the revised safety package, the new Verna gets 6 airbags, impact sensing auto door unlock, floor carpet hooks and rear parking sensors.

Hyundai also claims that the new Verna has a quieter cabin with low NVH and a powerful air-conditioning system. The car has been tuned for better ride and handling that reduces under-body hits on rough roads.
