New-gen VW Polo spotted without camouflage in South Africa

The new-generation Volkswagen Polo has been spotted without any camouflage in South Africa. The car is expected to make its global debut at the Frankfurt Motor Show later this year. This will be the sixth-gen model of the Polo hatchback.

The new VW Polo is based on the company's MQB A0 platform and is longer and wider than the current model. Despite its larger dimensions, it is claimed to be around 70 kg lighter than its predecessor.

The undisguised spy shots reveal that the 2018 Polo is built in accordance with the company's new design philosophy that was introduced with the new Passat sedan. It gets slimmer headlights & front grille, a prominent character line running on the side, a relatively steeply raked C-pillar and new tail lights that have been placed at the extreme corners. The interiors of the new Polo haven't been photographed.

Powertrain options expected to be available in international-spec model are likely to include a 1.0-litre turbocharged petrol, a 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol from the new Golf and a new 1.6-litre diesel unit. The performance-oriented Polo GTI is expected to get a 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol unit. Three transmission options are likely to be offered, including a 5-speed manual, a 6-speed manual and a 7-speed DSG automatic.
