Volvo has revealed the new-gen XC60 at the 87th Geneva Motor Show. This marks the global debut of the second-generation model of the SUV. Reports suggest that the automaker is planning to bring the new XC60 to India later this year.
The updated XC60 has been designed in accordance with the company's new design philosophy, which was debuted with the XC90 and followed by the S90 sedan and V90 estate. The new XC60 has now been given similar family design cues and is based on the company's SPA platform. It borrows some design elements from the XC90, including the vertical nose, Thor-LED headlamps, a long bonnet and large vertically stacked taillights.
The interiors too are inspired from the XC90's cabin layout. The dashboard houses a portrait-oriented center screen that comes with Volvo's Sensus infotainment system. It supports Android Auto and Apple CarPlay and is mated to a Bowers and Wilkins sound system. There is also a four-zone climate control system on offer.
The top-of-the-line powertrain option with the new XC60 is a T8 Twin Engine petrol plug-in hybrid setup that delivers 401 BHP and can accelerate the SUV from 0-100 Km/h in a company-claimed time of 5.3 seconds. The lower variants will get a D4 diesel engine rated at 187 BHP and a D5 unit with PowerPulse technology that churns out 231 BHP. Petrol engines on offer will include a T5 unit delivering 250 BHP and a turbocharged & supercharged T6 mill that puts out 315 BHP and 400 Nm of torque.
Volvo is expected to start production of the new XC60 by mid-April 2017, while it will likely go on sale later this year. The SUV will be competing against the likes of the Audi Q5, BMW X3 and Mercedes GLC.
