New-gen Toyota Innova to be named Innova Crysta in India?

Toyota is gearing up to launch the all-new Innova in India this year and it looks like it will be introduced as the Innova Crysta. A teaser image leaked through a presentation shows the new Innova with the word 'Crysta' suffixed to its name, much like the Corolla which is called the Corolla Altis in India.

If the Crysta name sounds familiar, it's because the previous generation Innova was offered in a special edition called the Innova Crysta (based on the top-end VX grade) back in 2011. Only 1,000 units of the limited edition model were made with the feature list including smoked alloy wheels, body graphics, dual-tone leather seat covers, a rear spoiler and dark-wood panel inserts in the interior.

The new Innova petrol gets a dual VVT-i 2.0L engine that makes 137 BHP @ 5,600 rpm and 183 Nm of torque @ 4,000 rpm. The diesel variant gets a GD 2.4L diesel engine with a variable nozzle turbo (VNT) that makes 147 BHP @ 3,400 rpm and 342 Nm of torque @ 1,200 - 2,800 rpm (AT = 360 Nm @ 1,200-2,600 rpm).

Both engines are 4-cylinder, 16-valve mills, which can be mated with a 5-speed manual or 6-speed automatic gearbox. The Innova Crysta will make its debut at the 2016 Delhi Auto Expo. It remains to be seen what powertrain options make their way to India.
