The Supreme Court has banned 15-year old petrol and 10-year old diesel vehicles from plying on the streets of the National Capital Region (NCR). The court order comes in the wake of rising pollution levels in the region.
According to a media report, the apex court has directed the transport department to impound vehicles flouting the ban. A list of vehicles that are prohibited from plying will be published on the Central Pollution Control Board’s (CPCB) website. Citizens will be informed about the ban through newspaper advertisements.
Additionally, the court has directed the CPCB to setup a social media account where citizens would be able to lodge complaints.
Earlier, the National Green Tribunal (NGT) had passed a similar order. The ban was later upheld by the Supreme Court.
