My experience with a car rental company in Bangalore: 13 review points

I had to choose between the Maruti Ertiga and Kia Carens as there were no other 6+ seater cars available.

Here is a quick review of my experience with Revv. Long pending, but the festivities and the grind of work life decided to spin faster.

Pros:

  1. On-time Delivery: They hired a driver to drop the vehicle at 4:30 AM. I was fast asleep; the person was kind enough to call me 3-4 times to wake me up and also wait for 10 minutes for me to come down from my flat to inspect the vehicle.
  2. Inspection: They take a lot of pictures and almost everything that I would have otherwise missed is covered. For example, a mat in the 3rd row was torn (4-5 inches) and they captured this as a defect. I am sure I would have missed this.
  3. Clean and Well-Maintained Car: The car was clean and smelled good. He allowed me to take it for a short drive. Inspected the oil levels, brakes, and everything was in decent condition. The wheels were new, and I didn't find any real issues, not even any dents, which was surprising for a vehicle that was 42K on the odometer.
  4. Fast Tag: The fast tag on the vehicle acts like a wallet. I think it has a 2K balance. They adjust this in the final invoice and you also get an SMS every time there is a deduction. Helps in keeping track of the fast tag expenses.
  5. Flawless Return: I ended the trip 3 hours before my scheduled time. I fired up the app and asked the driver to pick up the vehicle. 1 hour later, he arrived and did a thorough 20-minute inspection and was done.
  6. Efficient Refund Process: I filled some extra fuel on the way back and was left with a balance. My calculation said 3L or a little less than 3. Revv said 6.5L, which was definitely not possible, and refunded it along with the deposit in 3 days.

Potential Cons:

  1. Paperwork: They do not accept Digilocker and you will need to provide hard copies of Aadhar, Passport, and any other documents.
  2. Lack of Clarity on Fees: Did not mention about Insurance, Taxes, Out-of-state license (Yellow board), and so on. This was an intrastate trip, hence I did not bother asking. Can be an issue if you are taking the vehicle for interstate trips.
  3. Breakdown Assistance: No mention about breakdown assistance. It was casual, and he mentioned you can call and they will come. But no numbers and details were shared. I faintly recall reading something about this in the app.
  4. Pricing: It was 10-15% more than the highest quote from the local dealers. Local dealers are purely hit or miss. If Revv can maintain this experience, maybe they can justify this higher price.
  5. Aggressive Sales : They call me as soon as I log in to check the prices. I wish there was a way companies stop trusting Salesforce sales reps and go back to WhatsApp or chat-based support.
  6. Damage Fees: They have a list of charges for each part that is damaged (in case of an accident), and the cost did look inflated. I was not too bothered because I am a slow to very slow driver. But in case of an accident, this can be a pain.
  7. Limited Vehicle Options: Availability of vehicles was limited. I had to choose between Ertiga and Carens. There were no other 6+ seaters available. Highway runs with no high safety-rated cars was disappointing.

All in all, a great experience. I would definitely try them again for my outstation trips from Bangalore.
