Maruti Suzuki and Toyota have lined up new mid-size SUVs to take on the likes of the Hyundai Creta and Kia Seltos. Now, new details have emerged that contradict earlier reports.
According to reports, the Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder and Maruti Suzuki's upcoming SUV will not be based on Toyota's TNGA-B platform. Instead, the SUV will use Suzuki's Global-C architecture, which underpins models like the current Vitara Brezza, Ciaz, S-Cross and the 4th-gen Vitara mid-size SUV sold in the international market.
Both SUVs are likely to be powered by Suzuki's K15C Dual-Jet petrol engine that debuted in the Ertiga and XL6. They will also get a strong hybrid powertrain option. It is said that Suzuki has integrated Toyota's hybrid tech with its K-series engine.
Rumours also suggest that Maruti's version of the mid-size SUV could be called Vitara in India.
