Mercedes-Benz to launch SLK 55 AMG on December 2

Mercedes-Benz is set to launch the SLK 55 AMG roadster in India on December 2, 2013.

The SLK 55 AMG sports a 5.5 litre naturally aspirated V8 engine, which develops 415 bhp and 540 Nm of torque. Given the shift towards forced induction and higher efficiency, it is probably one of the last naturally aspirated AMGs to be put into production. An AMG Speedshift 7G-Tronic automatic gearbox transmits this power to the car’s rear wheels.  This gearbox has three modes: Controlled Efficiency (C), Sports (S) and Manual (M).

Mercedes-Benz claims a 0-100 kph time of just 4.6 seconds and top speed is electronically limited to 250 kph. An efficiency figure of 11.89 kpl and CO2 emissions of 195 g/km are impressive for a car with such performance.

The SLK 55 AMG will also feature enhancements like an AMG bodykit, AMG sports suspension, Nappa leather upholstery, 18 inch AMG alloy wheels and perforated disc brakes among others. Like the standard car, this will also have a retractable hard top. This sets the SLK 55 AMG apart from most of its competitors who are using soft tops.

The car will be brought to India as a CBU (Completely Built Unit) and will attract maximum taxes. Therefore, an astronomical price tag can be expected.
