Mercedes-Benz to launch GLS-Class in India on May 18, 2016

Mercedes-Benz has announced that it will launch the GLS-Class in India on May 18, 2016.

The GLS-Class replaces the GL-Class and sits at the top of the Mercedes-Benz SUV model line-up. The company had announced the new model designation in November 2014.

The GLS-Class gets styling changes in line with the company's new design philosophy. The SUV gets a new grille, revised headlamps and tail lamps and new front and rear bumpers.

On the inside, the GLS-Class gets a new three-spoke multifunction steering wheel, a free-standing COMAND infotainment system and a touchpad among other changes.

The GLS is expected to be powered by the same 3.0-litre V6 from the GL 350 d that is on sale currently. This unit produces 255 BHP @ 3,600 rpm and 619 Nm of torque @ 1,600-2,400 rpm. However, the engine will be mated to a 9-speed automatic gearbox instead of the current model's 7-speed unit.
