Mercedes-AMG GT revealed

The Mercedes-AMG GT, the upcoming flagship sports car from AMG, the performance division of German luxury carmaker, Mercedes-Benz, has been revealed. The car will make its official debut at the Paris Motor Show.

The Mercedes-AMG GT sports a long bonnet, sharply raked windscreen and a sweeping roofline. The grille has a single horizontal slat and star in the middle. The car gets large air intakes located at the front and LED headlamps with DRLs. At the rear, there is a pair of slim tail lamps. Other features include side air vents.

The Mercedes-AMG GT is loaded with assistance systems that are adoted from the new S-Class, such as Collision Prevention Assist Plus, Adaptive Brake, Attention Assist, Parktronic, rear-view Camera, Pre-Safe system and the tire pressure monitoring system. Optional extras include Lane Tracking package including Lane Keeping Assist and Blind Spot Assist. Safety features include three-point seat belts with belt tensioners and belt force limiters, front airbags, combined thorax/pelvis side bags, window bags and knee bags, for the driver and front passenger respectively.

The Mercedes-AMG GT will be available in two variants - the GT and the GT S. Both variants come with AMG's new M178 V8 biturbo engine that displaces 3982 cc and is couple to a dual clutch automatic transmission. However, while the GT's power plant produces 456 bhp and 600 Nm of torque, the GT S's unit pumps out 503 bhp and 650 Nm. Mercedes claims that the GT and GT S do the 0-100 kph sprint in 3.9 and 3.7 seconds respectively. The electronically limited top speed for the GT has been pegged at 304 kph, while that of the GT S is 310 kph.

There is a double wishbone suspension at the front and a multi-link suspension at the rear. The car gets electro-mechanical steering and GT S also gets a rear axle locking differential. The GT S is also available with the AMG DYNAMIC PLUS package which is said to enhance performance and agility.

The GT comes with 10-spoke alloy wheels with the ones at front measuring 9 x 19 inch and those at the rear, 11 x 19 inch, shod with 255/35 R 19 and 295/35 R 19 tyres respectively. The GT S gets 9 x 19 inch alloys at the front with 265/35 R 19 section tyres and 11 x 20 inch alloys at the rear with 295/30 R 20 section tyres.

The Mercedes-AMG GT will be pitted against the Porsche 911 Turbo and higher variants of the Jaguar F-Type.
