Maruti Suzuki has been testing a light commercial vehicle (codenamed Y9T) for a while now. Test mules of the truck have been spotted on numerous occasions. Now comes the news that the truck will be launched in the month of May, this year.
The Y9T is based on the Suzuki Carry, which is sold in global markets. In India, Maruti is likely to sell it under the same name. The company is expected to use parts from its other budget offerings in the truck to keep its costs in check.
The Super Carry is likely to be powered by the first in-house developed diesel engine from Maruti - an 800 cc, twin-cylinder diesel engine, which is rumoured to be capable of producing 35 bhp. It is expected to have a capacity to haul 1.0 tonne of payload.
The Super Carry will be positioned against the Tata Ace and Mahindra Maxximo Plus.
