Maruti Vitara Brezza to be launched only with diesel engine?

It looks like Maruti may follow the footsteps of the S-Cross while launching the all-new Vitara Brezza compact SUV. According to a report, Maruti will launch the Vitara Brezza as a diesel only model, with the petrol engine being restricted to exports, at least initially.

The diesel variants of the Vitara Brezza are expected to be propelled by the Fiat sourced 1.3L engine that already powers models like the Ertiga MPV and Ciaz sedan. The reported exclusion of a petrol engine would understandably cause the compact SUV to lose out on a fairly large share of its potential buyer base, but Maruti is expecting sales of around 10,000 units a month.

The Vitara Brezza petrol is expected to get a 1.5L M Series engine, with the car reportedly being exported to markets like Indonesia. The variant could be offered in India at a later stage.

Maruti Suzuki has teased the Vitara Brezza on multiple platforms and the car will be unveiled at the 2016 Delhi Auto Expo. The formal launch and price announcement is expected in March 2016. With this model, Maruti will target the Ford EcoSport and Mahindra TUV300 sub-4 metre compact SUVs, while undercutting rivals like the Hyundai Creta.
