Maruti Suzuki YRA hatchback uncovered

Maruti Suzuki has been developing a hatchback (codenamed YRA) that is likely to compete in the B+ segment and will be positioned above the Swift. A test mule of the car had been spotted testing and earlier this week a rendering showed the car with design cues from the recently launched Ciaz. Now, Autocar India has put up an image of the car uncovering a part of its front and side.

Going by the image, the YRA appears to carry forward the design language of the Swift. However, the new hatchback appears to be larger than the Swift. The car has sweptback headlamps with a V-shaped honeycomb grille lined with chrome in between. The front bumper is a simple unit with wide air dam traditional fog lamps and what appear to be vertical daytime running lights. Coming to the side, we can see that the ORVM has been mounted on the car's front door and has no integrated turn-indicator. The car is also riding on steel wheels rather than alloys. 

The YRA is expected to have greater interior and boot space than the Swift. It is likely to be powered by a 1.0-litre, turbocharged petrol power plant that puts out 90 bhp and can average 20 km/l. The company could also use the 1.4-litre petrol and 1.3-litre diesel units from the Ciaz sedan.

In India, the YRA is expected to be launched in the second half of 2015 and will compete in the B+ segment with the Hyundai Elite i20, Honda Jazz and Volkswagen Polo.
