Maruti drops plan to build Vitara Brezza at Toyota plant

Maruti and Toyota could jointly build a Hyundai Creta-rival instead.

Maruti Suzuki has dropped its plan to manufacture the Vitara Brezza at Toyota’s Bidadi plant. It will be replaced with another unnamed model.

If you recall, back in March 2019, Maruti had announced that the Vitara Brezza would be manufactured at Toyota’s plant from 2022.

According to a media report, instead of the Vitara Brezza, Maruti and Toyota could jointly produce a mid-size crossover that could rival the likes of the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos and Tata Harrier. It could be manufactured at Plant 2 at Toyota’s Bidadi facility from 2022.

Reports also suggest that the new mid-size crossover is likely to be based on the Daihatsu New Global Architecture (DNGA) - a low-cost version of the Toyota New Global Architecture (TNGA). It could be powered by a 1.5-litre petrol engine in addition to a turbo-petrol unit.
