Maruti Suzuki has launched the mild hybrid version of the Baleno. It is available in Delta and Zeta trims priced at Rs. 7.25 lakh and Rs. 7.86 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi) respectively.
The Baleno Smart Hybrid is powered by a BS-VI compliant 1.2-litre DualJet petrol engine with features such as Torque assist function, idle start stop and brake energy regeneration. The car comes with a lithium-ion battery. The Baleno Smart Hybrid comes with a 5-speed manual transmission only.
According to Maruti, the new engine offers better combustion efficiency and reduced friction. In order to achieve BS-VI emission standards, Maruti has upgraded the engine hardware and software as well as the exhaust system. The engine control software uses on-board sensors for precise fuel injection. The claimed fuel economy is 23.87 km/l.
Maruti has also updated the 1.2-litre, 4-cylinder petrol engine that is available on the standard Baleno to meet BS-VI emission regulations. This engine produces 83 BHP @ 6,000 rpm and 115 Nm of torque @ 4,000 rpm. While a 5-speed manual transmission is offered as standard, it comes with an optional continuously variable transmission (CVT).
