Mercedes-Benz has registered the maximum sales in the luxury car segment last year. BMW claimed second place followed by Audi. This is the third consecutive year that Mercedes has sold more cars than its German competitors in India.
Mercedes sold a total of 15,330 units during January-December 2017. That's a growth of 15.9% compared to the previous year (Jan-Dec 2016: 13,231 units). The carmaker registered double-digit growth in both sedan and SUV segments. The performance arm, Mercedes-AMG too registered double-digit growth in 2017.
BMW Group India registered total sales of 9,800 units in 2017 - a 25% growth compared to 2016. Out of the total units dispatched, BMW India sold 9,379 cars in 2017 compared to 7,500 units in 2016. With respect to the previous year, sales of the MINI grew by 17% to 421 units. With total sales of 7,876 units in 2017, Audi registered a growth of 2% compared to 2016 when it had dispatched 7,742 units.
Jaguar Land Rover India registered a growth of 49% in 2017. The carmaker sold 3,954 units. While the company hasn't provided the model-wise break of its sales figures, JLR claims that the Discovery Sport and Range Rover Evoque were the most popular among customers.
Volvo sold 2,029 units last year as opposed to 1,584 units in 2016. This amounts to a growth of 28% for the Swedish manufacturer.
