A man working as an assistant sales manager with a multinational company was shot dead in Lucknow by the police on Friday night after allegedly failing to stop his vehicle and hitting a police motorcycle.
According to a media report, Vivek Tiwari was seen with an ex-colleague in a parked SUV at 1:30 am in Lucknow's Gomti Nagar. Two police constables approached the parked SUV as they suspected some suspicious activity and questioned him.
Vivek then allegedly tried to get away and hit the police motorcycle in the process. One of the constables fired at him, injuring him. The SUV stopped after it hit a pillar of the flyover. It has been reported that the constables then fled the scene. Vivek's ex-colleague flagged down a truck and called the police. Unfortunately, he died later in hospital.
The police constable claims that Vivek Tiwari tried to run over him thrice and hence, he shot him in self defence. However, the police say that the constable acted beyond the limit of self defence. A murder case has been filed and the two constables have been taken into custody.
