Laser light show on Chinese highway to keep drivers awake

The video shows the laser light show rotating between red, blue & green lights

A video released on social media X (formerly Twitter), showcases a sign gantry on a Chinese highway projecting a light show to help drivers from combating nighttime fatigue.

The video shows the laser light show rotating between red, blue & green lights, but doesn't strobe or aim at vehicles. The main aim of the bright colours is to keep drivers awake and alert on long, boring highways at night. While it is a unique way to keep drivers awake, it could also be a cause of distraction on its own.

However, highway authorities making efforts to keep drivers awake at night isn't new. An Australian highway has roadside trivia signs to keep drivers mentally engaged.

In a follow-up to the video, the X user explained: "A video captured on the Qingdao–Yinchuan Expressway displays vibrant laser lights hovering above the vehicles. Mr. Li, the person behind the camera, reported that these laser lights designed to combat fatigue quickly revitalized him and reduced his exhaustion during a prolonged nighttime.
