Jeep imports petrol variants of Wrangler & Grand Cherokee

Jeep India has imported petrol variants of the Wrangler Unlimited and the Grand Cherokee for homologation purpose. The company launched both these models in their diesel guise yesterday. Jeep has also officially claimed that the Wrangler and Grand Cherokee will get petrol options by November 2016.

A Zauba search reveals that Wrangler Unlimited petrol was brought in on August 10, while the Grand Cherokee petrol was imported on August 25, 2016. The import records also suggest that both these models are powered by a 3.6-litre petrol engine. In the international market, this Pentastar™ VVT V6 engine develops 285 BHP and 352 Nm of torque under the Wrangler Unlimited, while the power is boosted to 293 BHP in the Grand Cherokee.

Jeep India has priced the diesel Wrangler Unlimited at Rs. 71.59 lakh while the Grand Cherokee range starts at Rs. 93.64 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi). It would be interesting to see how the American automaker places the petrol models in its line-up. Both these models will be brought in India as CBU (Completely Built Up) units, similar to their diesel counterparts. Jeep is also planning to start local assembly at the FCA production facility in Ranjangaon, Maharashtra, by 2017.
