Trial production of the India-spec Jeep Compass Trailhawk has reportedly begun. The SUV is being built at the Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA) plant at Ranjangaon near Pune.

In India, the Compass Trailhawk is expected to be powered by a 2.0-litre, 4-cylinder diesel engine that produces 171 BHP and 350 Nm of torque. There is no word yet on the transmission that will be offered on Trailhawk, however reports suggest that it could get a 9-speed automatic and the Selec-Terrain 4WD system.

The made-in-India Compass is also exported to international markets. The carmaker is likely to introduce an 'S buzz' variant featuring a slightly different interior and new 19-inch alloy wheels for export markets.

FCA could introduce the Compass facelift in 2020 or 2021. The updated version is likely to get an automatic parallel parking feature.
