Anand Mahindra has confirmed the return of Jawa bikes to India via Twitter.
A media report suggests that the production of Jawa motorcycles are likely to begin this month at the company's Pithampur plant. The brand will try to build on its retro image and will take on Royal Enfield, its original rival in the 80s.
Jawa has launched 2 bikes in the international market. These are the Jawa 350 and the Jawa 660. The Jawa 350 is powered by a 343.5cc 2-stroke engine producing 22.8 BHP at 5,250 rpm and 32 Nm of torque at 4,750 rpm. It is paired to a 4-speed gearbox. The Jawa 660 is powered by a 660cc engine producing 48.27 BHP at 6,000 rpm and 57.5 Nm of torque at 5,500 rpm. It is paired to a 5-speed gearbox.
The specifications of the Jawa bike coming to India is unknown. Reports suggest that the bike will have a 300cc engine that currently powers the Mojo.
In 2016, we had reported that Mahindra's subsidiary, Classic Legends Private Limited (CIPL), signed a brand licensing agreement with Jawa. This allows the company to sell Jawa bikes in specific Asian markets, including India.
