Japan: Next-gen Swift's brochure leaked

The new-gen Suzuki Swift's brochure has been leaked on the internet, revealing some details about the Japanese-spec model. Media reports claim that Suzuki might unveil the car for the Japanese market on December 27, while an international unveil is due at the 2017 Geneva Motor Show.

The leaked images reveal various design cues of the new-gen Swift. While the front was revealed recently in an undisguised spy shot, the brochure also gives the first look at the car's rear end. The new Swift clearly retains its predecessor's design character and thus, appears to be an evolved version of the current model. While the silhouette of the car is similar to the one it replaces, the front and rear end have been tweaked to provide a fresher look.

The new Swift gets a large hexagonal front grille, redesigned sweptback headlamps with projectors and LED DRLs and a tweaked bumper. The circular fog lamps have been placed in large blacked out recesses. These recesses, located on either side of the bumper, are joined through a slim air dam on the lower part of the bumper. The side profile has the Swift's characteristic sloping roof line and blacked out A & B pillars. The rear door handle has now been moved behind the rear window, similar to the arrangement found on the Chevrolet Beat and the Mahindra KUV100. The C-pillar too gets a blacked out area. The rear end gets a flatter appearance, especially in comparison to the curvy tailgate of the current model. It gets wraparound tail-lamps and a subtle spoiler integrated on the roof, while the number plate housing continues to be placed on the bumper.

On the inside, the new-gen Swift retains an all-black cabin, with silver inserts added on the dashboard. The centre air-con vents are circular in shape, while the corner ones get a quadrilateral design. A large touchscreen infotainment display dominates the centre console, below which are the air-con controls in a circular layout. It also gets an all-new, flat-bottom steering wheel with control buttons for the infotainment system. The instrument cluster too is a new unit that features a twin-pod design along with an MID screen in the middle.

The Japan-spec model is expected to come with 1.0-litre turbocharged and 1.2-litre naturally aspirated petrol engines. Transmission options available include a 5-speed manual and a CVT. A mild-hybrid option will also be on offer.

The next-gen Swift is expected to be launched in India around the festive season of 2017. The India-spec model is expected to retain the 1.2-litre petrol and 1.3-litre diesel engines that power the current model. Maruti might also introduce its SHVS mild-hybrid technology in the car.
