Jaguar imports XE sedan in CKD form for R&D

Last year, there were reposts that British luxury carmaker Jaguar, would start assembling the XE sedan in India. Now the company has imported a completely knocked down (CKD) kit of one unit of the car into the country for research and development purposes. The car is expected to be assembled at the company's plant at Chakan, near Pune.

The information provided by zauba.com suggests that the car has a 2.0-litre, four-cylinder diesel engine. This engine is from the company's recently introduced Ingenium engine family. The engine is mated to either a 6-speed manual gearbox or an 8-speed automatic transmission. The value of the CKD kit has been declared to be Rs. 24.97 lakh.

It is rumoured that Jaguar will start rolling out the locally assembled XE towards the end of 2015 or the beginning of 2016. The company plans to sell 1,300-4,000 units of the XE in India every month.

The XE is Jaguar's rival for the Mercedes-Benz C-Class, BMW 3-Series and Audi A4.
