Ford has announced that it will offer the Fiesta with a 1.0-litre EcoBoost engine mated to a 6-speed, PowerShift automatic transmission in markets around the world.
Until now, the 999 cc, 3-cylinder, EcoBoost engine has always been offered with a manual gearbox. This will be the first time it will be mated to the PowerShift dual-clutch automatic transmission, which has been developed by German transmission manufacturer, Getrag. The automatic gearbox is expected to make driving the car in the city easier, since there is no clutch pedal to operate. For Europe and South Africa, Ford has detuned the engine to 100 PS, while in the Asian market it is rumoured to continue with 125 PS. Ford has stated a CO2 emission figure of 114 g/km and a fuel consumption figure of 4.9 l/100 km.
In India, the Ford EcoSport uses the same EcoBoost engine. The PowerShift transmission is available only with the 1.5 litre engine. With this new development, it may not be long before we see the EcoBoost-PowerShift combination on our roads.
