Hyundai Motor Company has announced the achievement of a new major global milestone.
The South Korean automaker recently completed 100 million units of global cumulative production since the company's foundation 57 years ago. This makes it the fastest brand in the global automotive industry to achieve this feat. The automaker celebrated the milestone at its Ulsan plant in South Korea.
As part of the celebrations, Hyundai handed over its 100 millionth and first vehicle - an Ioniq 5 EV, directly to its customer at Hyundai's shipping centre once the vehicle came off the final inspection conveyor line.
Jaehoon Chang, President & CEO of Hyundai Motor Company, stated, "Reaching global cumulative production of 100 million vehicles is a meaningful milestone that was possible thanks to our customers around the world who have chosen and supported Hyundai Motor since the very beginning." He further mentioned, "Taking on bold challenges and being in constant pursuit of innovation has enabled us to achieve rapid growth and will empower us to take ‘one step further’ toward another 100 million units as a mobility game changer."
The Ulsan plant holds historical significance for the brand, as it is the place where the Korean automobile industry began in 1968. The plant made Korea's first mass-produced independent model, the "Pony", back in 1975.
Dong Seock Lee, President, Head of Domestic Productions & Chief Safety Officer of Hyundai Motor Company, stated, "This auspicious occasion is just the first step toward the future era of electrification that Hyundai Motor will lead."
