South Korean carmaker, Hyundai, has unveiled its all-new flagship electric SUV, the Ioniq 9, for the global market. The new Hyundai Ioniq 9 is a three-row electric SUV that will go on sale in Korea and the USA in the first half of next year before being introduced in other global markets slightly later.
The Hyundai Ioniq 5 measures 5,060 mm in length, 1,980 mm in width and 1,790 mm in height. It has a wheelbase of 3,130 mm. Hyundai claims a drag coefficient of 0.259 Cd, slightly better than the Mercedes EQS SUV which has 0.26 Cd. The Ioniq 9 gets 620 litres of boot space, which increases to 1,323 litres with the third row folded. There is also an 88-litre and 52-litre frunk on the RWD and AWD versions, respectively.
In terms of design, the Ioniq 9 features a rounded front end featuring the brand's Parametric Pixels and an upright tailgate with full-combination tail lights. The electric SUV runs on 19-inch alloys as standard, although Hyundai offers up to 21-inch wheels as an option. The SUV also gets 16 exterior colour options, paired with seven interior choices.
Inside, the Hyundai Ioniq 9 is offered in either six or seven-seater configuration. The front 2 rows get a massage function, while the second row features swivelling seats allowing passengers to face the third row. Other features include a panoramic sunroof, dual 12-inch screens for the digital instrument cluster and infotainment, multi-zone climate control, roof-mounted air vents, 100W USB-C ports in all three-rows, 8-speaker sound system, with a 14-speaker Bose system, which can play synthesised driving sounds.
The Hyundai Ioniq 5 is based on the brand's E-GMP platform and is offered in two trims: Long Range & Performance, each with a massive 110.3 kWh battery pack. The Long Range gets RWD and AWD options, while the Performance variant comes standard with AWD.
Hyundai claims a maximum range of 620 km (WLTP cycle) on a single charge on the Long Range version. The Ioniq 9 LR RWD gets 218 BHP and 350 Nm, while the AWD adds a 95 BHP and 255 Nm motor to the front axle. The top-spec Performance version gets 218 BHP motors on each axle, allowing for a 0-100 km/h sprint in 5.2 seconds. The Ioniq 9 has fast charging capabilities of up to 350 kW, allowing for 10-80% charge in 24 minutes.
