Hyundai Elite i20 gets 6 airbags in top-end trim

Hyundai India has added safety features to the top-end Asta (O) trim of the Elite i20, as it now comes with 6 airbags. The petrol Asta (O) is now priced at Rs. 7,75,828 while the diesel Asta (O) costs Rs. 8,99,992. This points towards a price hike of around Rs. 15,000 on both variants in order to accommodate the cost of extra airbags.

The first-gen i20 was introduced in India with 6 airbags. But the Korean automaker ditched this feature in the Elite i20, which only came with driver and passenger side airbag even in the top-end model. Realising changing market preferences in the country, Hyundai has again equipped the premium hatchback with side and curtain airbags in the Asta (O) trim. The Elite i20 has thus become the second hatchback in its segment to offer six airbags, after the new-gen Ford Figo.

There are no other mechanical or feature wise changes in the car. Hyundai is also set to launch the Elite i20 automatic, which will only be offered with the Magna trim.
