HPCL opens petrol pump on world's highest motorable road

Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited (HPCL) has opened a petrol pump on the Leh-Khardung-La road, which is widely regarded as the world's highest motorable road.

Located at South Pullu, at an altitude of 15,300 feet above mean sea level, this kerb side pump (KSP) could well be the world's highest petroleum dispensing facility. The pump was inaugurated by the Commanding Officer, Army and Border Roads with the temperature dipping to -15 degrees centigrade.

HPCL's Chandigarh Direct Sales Regional Office services a major share of the Army and Border Roads business. It was assigned with the task of installation of 125 KSPs, mostly in challenging terrains. Till now, work on 60 KSPs is said to have been completed.
