Honda to go 100% electric; will phase out IC engines by 2040

Honda aims to achieve 100 percent electrification in its entire global product lineup by 2040.

Toshihiro Mibe - CEO, Honda, has announced that the company is aiming to achieve 100 per cent electrification of its entire global product range by 2040.

According to the electrification strategy, by 2030, Honda's EV/FCEV range will contribute to 40 per cent of its global sales. This is expected to rise to 80 per cent in 2035 and 100 per cent by 2040.

Honda also confirmed that by the second half of the decade, the company will introduce a range of EV products, based on its 'e:Architecture'. These models will first be introduced in the US, before expanding to other markets around the world.

The company has also announced that it will start conducting independent research on all-solid-state batteries for its next-generation EVs, the first of which will enter production by the mid-2020s.

Honda confirmed that its omnidirectional Advanced Driver-Assistance System (ADAS) is expected to be available on all its new models in developed countries by 2030.

The company will also invest approximately 5 trillion yen (approximately US$ 46 billion) in R&D over the next six years; irrespective of the fluctuation in its sales revenue.
