Harley-Davidson extends delivery time of Street 750

American motorcycle manufacturer, Harley-Davidson opened bookings for its cheapest offering, the Street 750 on March 1, 2014 while promising delivery in a June. However, the demand for the sub-Rs. 5 lakh bike has been so high that the company has had to push the delivery date to September, which is a waiting period of six months.

Harley-Davidson has a plant at Bawal in Haryana, which is the company's second outside of the United States of America. Other than the engine, most of the Street 750's parts are locally sourced. These include tyres, brakes, body frame, cylinder heads, engine parts, front fork and swing arm, among others. This has helped in keeping the company in pricing the bike moderately, which is important to succeed in the Indian market.

By 2015, Harley-Davidson plans to introduce the Street 500, which will be priced even lower than the 750. The Street 750 and 500 are the only Harley-Davidson bikes to be built for markets outside North America at the Bawal plant. The company plans to export large quantities of these two models.

Harley-Davidson has thirteen dealers in India at the moment. The company plans to increase this number in 2014 and is looking to expand its presence in Tier-II markets.
