Harley-Davidson has said that it will develop small-displacement motorcycles for emerging markets in Asia by partnering with a manufacturer in the region. The new bikes in the 250 cc to 500 cc range are planned to make the brand more accessible to customers, especially in India.
Announcing its "More Roads to Harley-Davidson" growth plan, the bike maker has also revealed new motorcycles based on a new modular 500 cc to 1,250 cc middleweight platform. The Pan America 1250 is the company's first Adventure Touring bike. Harley has also revealed a 975 cc Streetfighter model along with a 1,250 cc Custom. These will be launched in the beginning of 2020, while more products based on the modular platform will follow by 2022.
In 2019, Harley-Davidson will be launching its first electric motorcycle called the LiveWire. The company plans to add new models to its no-clutch "twist and go" range of electric 2-wheelers in 2022. Meanwhile, Harley will continue to develop its Touring and Cruiser range.
Through 2022, Harley-Davidson plans to make an operating investment of US$ 450-550 million and a capital investment of US$ 225-275 million. It plans to enhance its dealer network and strengthen its retail business by partnering with leading e-commerce providers and by launching smaller, urban retail stores globally.
