Got a 2000 rupees challan yesterday for driving at 62 kmph on a national highway that is the Mumbra bypass near Thane. First of all, there was no signage over there which said 30 kmph, secondly, it was a downhill. How can one even drive at 30 Kmph, without being rear-ended?
How to tackle these? I am really fed up with this, especially after following sedate driving, and adhering to all traffic rules.
It was on Diwali day.
Guess they were on a tight target to achieve Diwali quota.

One of my cars was fined back in 2020 at the same spot. Here's the post.
Looks like things haven't changed much for years now.

There should be an option to contest and get it cancelled, as I'm assuming almost 100% of the vehicles on this road will be above 30kmph and must have been challaned. If online doesn't help then maybe lok adalat which sends the notice later on.
Truly a nuisance this has become. Even climbing down the ghat on the Mum-Pune expressway had become stressful.

I got fined there for driving at 55kmph. The cops stand right at the turn. They ignore the wrong-side riders but catch those exceeding the speed limit.
As for contesting the challan, you will unfortunately lose. The reason being, there are signboards telling you about the 30kmph speed limit. If you go again on the same route, slowly, you will see the speed restriction at multiple places. I did the recce after a week of receiving the challan.
