Geneva 2015: New Skoda Superb makes its public debut

The highly anticipated B8 Skoda Superb has officially made its public debut at the 85th Geneva motor show. Based on the VisionC concept, the new Superb is 28 mm longer and 47 mm wider than the previous model. Additionally, the wheel base has been increased by 80 mm and the front overhang is 61 mm shorter than before.

The engine options include 1.4-litre, 1.8-litre and 2.0-litre TSI petrols with output figures ranging from 123 BHP to 217 BHP along with 1.6-litre and 2.0-litre TDI diesels with output figures ranging from 118 BHP to 188 BHP. Though the engines destined for India haven't been confirmed, Skoda India could choose to continue with the 1.8-TSI and 2.0-TDI. Transmission options include a 6-speed manual or a DSG automatic.

Available safety features include Multi-Collision Brake Front Assist with City Emergency Brake, Adaptive Cruise Control (automatic distance control), Crew Protect Assist, Lane Assist, Traffic Jam Assist, Blind Spot Detect, Rear Traffic Alert, Emergency Assist, Driver Alert (fatigue detection), a speed-limiter, Travel Assist (traffic sign recognition), Hill-Hold Control and electronic tyre pressure monitor. A lot of these features are likely to be dropped from the Indian spec Superb.

Along with the international launch of the new Skoda Superb (expected in June 2015), the Czech car maker will equip its complete model range in Europe with the more efficient EU6 engines. Skoda has confirmed that its entire range will be available with Volkswagen group’s EA 211/EA 888 petrols or EA 288 TDI common-rail diesel engines including a stop-start system and brake energy recovery.
